Self cleaning and Nano coatings on glass balustrades

Cleaning Glass

Many balconies are made almost solely from glass these days, with maybe only a stainless steel handrail, or an aluminium or brass handrail. So this is becoming more and more an issue requiring a smart solution.  Cleaning glass on the outside of balconies and balustrades is always an issue. Despite the fact that glass looks like a smooth faced product it is actually very porous when viewed under a microscope. 

These pours will have built up in them dirt, dust, oil and other deposits which will obscure the natural clarity of the glass. These will sometimes look like stains. 

Health and safety issues

When construction houses or any buildings one must consider the long term maintenance, access and cleaning regimes. In this respect glass balustrades are no exception.

With glass balconies this is of particular importance as there are always access issues to the outside or the danger of having to lean over the handrails to clean the outside of the glass. 

Solution to the problem

In order to achieve a good, safe and long term solution we have developed a unique coating to the glasses, Called BalcoNano®.  The BalcoNano® coating reduces maintenance requirements by up to 90%! This in turn reduces the risk and all other related matters which come with the cleaning requirement.

How it works

The BalcoNano® coating is a Hydrophobic (water repelling) coating. It will enhance the brilliance and reduce the maintenance required and/or frequency of cleaning. It will also make the glass more scratch resistant and graffiti resistant. 

Nano technology and the developments of Nano coatings to glass has grown tremendously in the last few years. This has enabled us to engineer our BalcoNano® coating to become more and more durable and bring it to a cost level that is affordable in the hope that this will soon become a standard in all external glass balcony and balustrades.

Designers and architects

Once architects get to grips with the full advantages and cost savings of The BalcoNano® coating in terms of maintenance and long term savings we are certain that this coating will become a standard specified element in future buildings. 

The BalcoNano® coating is silica based and cannot be applied to metalwork, plastics or the handrails but only to glass or ceramic products.
