‘Balconette’s advice was a great help when installing the balcony’

For properties in seaside locations, Balconette’s low-maintenance and corrosion-resistant balustrading products are a top choice for standing up to the elements. And they are also simple to install, as one homeowner discovered in Woolacombe, North Devon.
Johnny Clark installed this elegant Balconette Aerofoil Juliet Balcony with a Royal Chrome Anodised handrail on his rental property and chose an Aerofoil Juliet to keep clear views overlooking the sea.
“I built a small extension – an annexe - to my home as an all-year-round rental and put in full-height sliding doors to make the most of the views,” he says. “I looked online for a glass Juliette Balcony as there’s only so many people who supply these products. I chose Balconette’s aluminium and glass “Aerofoil” Juliet Balcony as the range is reasonably priced, and for me, it came down to price and value for money.”
As a self-installer, Johnny was impressed and reassured by Balconette’s information on their website and the advice offered by their technical team. “I’ve got a cladded lap building, so it’s not a flat surface. There is 18mm construction ply behind that, so there’s a gap of an inch because you’ve got batons running up to let air flow run up behind the Cedral cladding.
“On Balconette’s website, I saw pictures of their balconies on cladded buildings. So, I thought ‘that’s good, I’ve seen the product is actually onto something like mine’. It gave me the confidence to go ahead,” he continues.
When it came to installing the glass panels, Johnny had specified Balconette’s BalcoNano® self-cleaning glass coating that protects the glass and keeps it cleaner by repelling mineral deposits and rainwater. Again, Balconette’s team provided that much-appreciated reassurance.
“I knew that the glass had the coating on it, so it makes it nice and smooth for all the salt air to wash off. But I didn’t know on which side. Then I was advised that it’s coated on both sides. That was a great help, I didn’t realise it was on both sides. So, it’s the little things like that that really helped.”
Johnny installed the Juliette in a day, and it was all fitted by 4pm with help from a neighbour to hold the glass, adding: “Friends and family say it’s lovely, it looks good. I think it’s ideal for a coastal climate!”
