Keeping spectacular views across a sea loch in the Scottish Highlands and protecting hotel guests on breezy days are 22 metres of glass balustrading supplied by Balconette.
Balconette’s Aerofoil System with a Silver Anodised handrail was installed on decking outside five luxurious self-catering beach pods directly overlooking Loch Linnhe at The Onich Hotel, near Fort William.
The low-maintenance glass and aluminium balustrade, with its wing-shaped handrail offering a comfortable profile to lean on, creates a safety barrier to a drop to the beach at the water’s edge.
The hotel owner says using a glass balustrade solved two issues: keeping the views and acting as a windbreak, while enhancing the external appearance of the waterfront accommodation.
“With the pods looking so nice, we thought it would be good to have a glass balustrade as the panels act as an excellent wind-blocker. On windier days, the outdoor furniture was being blown around, but now it stays in place and guests are sheltered from the breeze,” he comments.
“The transparent glass also keeps the beautiful views over the loch – you can even see the water from the bed - and to the mountains beyond. Feedback has been very positive – our guests love it!”
After some research, his builder, Alan Dickie contacted Balconette and put the owner in touch with the company. “I was very impressed at how easy it was to order the balustrade online,” he continues. “Balconette sent me the drawings and proof of concept virtually and then we ordered everything. All of this was done remotely, and it was quite easy for me to understand what the project would look like. Balconette’s team was also very good, full of energy and enthusiasm.”
He adds: “The balustrade was installed within five days, and it looks very nice and professional. The Aerofoil handrail looks very cool, rather high-tech to me.”
