Our Balconette balustrade looks good and it's practical

This elegant Balconette glass balustrade not only looks good but serves an important practical purpose protecting a difference in internal floor levels at a home in rural West Wales.
David Price chose Balconette’s Orbit System Glass Balustrade with a round handrail in the Royal Chrome anodised finish as a security barrier for an 18-inch drop from their living area to a dining area.
“My wife Annis is quite badly disabled and though she can walk, she’s not too steady on her legs. If she fell down that, it would be disastrous. So, I had to do something urgently to protect that drop. For her safety and my peace of mind when I was not in the room, I needed to erect a barrier, and Balconette seemed to be the answer,” he explains.
Balconette popped up on his internet search and David’s decision was made. “I had considered alternative materials, like wood as I’m familiar with using it. But then I thought there would have been considerable technical difficulties. For example, the wall between the two areas is stone and there would have been a lot of drilling and trying to get things vertical.
“So, I decided to get a balustrade that sits on top rather than using the wall itself to anchor the vertical elements.”
After determining the measurements, David spoke with Balconette’s technical team and received draft plans, which he amended slightly. “Our builders, who had built an extension for us some years ago, fitted the balustrade and they were very good. It was much easier than doing it myself. They were here at 8am and by 2pm, the balustrade was fully installed,” he continues.
Commenting on the final result, David concludes: “The end post is quite useful because we have two steps down at 45 degrees and they’re from the living area down to the dining area. My wife finds that a great help when she has to come up the two steps. She grabs onto the posts for support, so that’s a bonus!
“Our Balconette balustrade looks good and it’s practical. We’re very happy indeed with it,” he adds from his home in Ceredigion, close to the Cardigan Bay coast.
