When you’ve enquired about Balconette balustrades, want to learn more and your motorhome trip takes you a few miles from their offices, what do you do? Call in, of course.
Hywel Edwards had struggled to find a local supplier to replace two rusty wrought iron balconies with low-maintenance ones on his home in Flintshire, North Wales. So, when Balconette’s website caught his eye, he made a “tentative” enquiry and obtained a supply-only price.
“The old railings were a pain as I had to paint them practically every year, so that’s why I decided to replace them with a glass balcony on the two sliding doors. But I just couldn’t get anybody, and some of the prices were very expensive,” explains Hywel.
“I liked the look of Balconette’s balustrades, yet I was still a bit wary as a friend was going to install them and I wanted to get it right. As a matter of luck, our motorhome trip to Brighton and the south coast would take us down the M23. I called Balconette to ask if I could pop in and see how it fitted together. And we did!”
Reassured by seeing Balconette’s balustrading first-hand, Hywel found the visit “very valuable”, saying: “We put our order in for the first, larger balcony when we came home as we wanted to check the measurements. But we were persuaded; the ordering process was all very simple. Later, I ordered the second one.”
The couple chose Balconette’s Aerofoil System with the handrails in a Silver anodised finish, for both balconies, which were installed by a friend, John Bell. “He’s very practical, and I helped him to install the larger one. The installations went very well and took the best part of two days,” continues Hywel.
The pair “took their time” fitting the first balcony to make sure everything was OK. Hywel sought Balconette’s technical help when it came to inserting the rubber strip supporting the glass, saying. “I phoned them because we weren’t sure, but then we thought we were doing it right – and as it turned out, we were. But you always want to check; Balconette’s experts were very good.”
Retiree Hywel praises the low-maintenance benefits of Balconette’s glass and aluminium system adding: “At my age, I’m looking for things to make life easier and I don’t want to be painting railings every year. I haven’t got to do anything now, except perhaps clean the glass now and again.
“And, of course, they do look lovely. Everybody who has seen them say they’re excellent and much better than the old iron railings that were there before!”
