When a storm caused the destruction of an original balcony on a traditional detached Surrey home, a stunning new one was constructed using Balconette’s SG12 Fully Frameless System.
The original balcony design on the Epsom Downs property was based on a wooden framework supported by two brick piers. During the storm, one column had crashed to the ground and took with it half of the old balustrade.

“This could have been a very unfortunate accident, but thankfully no one was injured,” says Barry Hughes, Director of CF Roofing Ltd, a Balconette Registered Partner Installer who was asked to reconstruct the balcony over the front porch.
After showing his client a range of glass balustrades, the couple chose the Balconette SG12 Fully Frameless System for a contemporary and low-maintenance solution. As this system can be installed without posts, supports or handrails, it creates clean lines and a stylish appearance.
After taking final measurements on site, CF Roofing Ltd liaised with Balconette, who created detailed drawings for Balconette to then manufacture and deliver the 5.2-metre-long balustrade to the residence.

Barry explains: “We started by reconstructing the damaged porch, including removal of the remaining brick column above the front door. Then additional timber supports were installed to support the heavy glass track and the 21.5mm-thick frameless glass panels that form the balustrade.”
As an extra enhancement, Barry’s team laid new rubber protection tiles with pebbles around the perimeter of the balcony floor to allow for good drainage. He says the owners were very pleased with the aesthetics of the new balcony floor and that the tiles would also protect the GRP roofing underneath from the elements.
On the final result, Barry comments: “The owners were absolutely delighted with the appearance of the rebuilt front façade. They were especially pleased that the area was now safe and useable, and that their home had taken on a smarter and more modern look.
“What is more, it is likely that this work has significantly increased the value of their property.”
