Taking advantage of uninterrupted sea views, this Balconette glass balustrade on a newbuild home in Lancing, West Sussex was achieved with helpful input from the company’s technical team.
Nearly 13 metres of Balconette’s Aerofoil System with a Royal Chrome Anodised handrail frames the view over the English Channel from the semi-detached timber frame property. It was built on the site of an older detached home.
Homeowner Kevin Morgan chose the Balconette system because it suited the style of the house and represented good value for money. He says: “We wanted a glass balustrade for its seamless appearance and so that we can see the amazing views. It also fits in with the design of the house and was within our budget.
“The balustrade looks classy and is good value for what it is. The Aerofoil handrail also fitted in with the style of the house,”
Installed on the first floor of the home, the balcony also required opaque privacy screens as part of Building Regulations to prevent overlooking neighbours.
For Kevin, assistance from Balconette’s technical team and recommendation of their registered installer Paul Frampton of Timbertech Southern Ltd, helped the project to progress smoothly.
“For the balustrade project, we asked a couple of builders for quotes and one of them mentioned Balconette,” says Kevin. “I checked out their website, liked the company and the product. It seemed to be easy to fit and it suited what we wanted. We discussed a lot of technical aspects with Balconette’s experts, and it all fitted in with what we needed.
“We had some issues with the builder over the measurements,” he continues. “Then Balconette recommended Paul, who measured up for us and from then, everything was on track. He was polite, easy to deal with, on time and did everything he said he was going to do.”
For Paul, the main challenges on the project were having to remove pre-installed decking so that they could drill through the steel beams, prior to relaying the decking and fitting the Balconette posts.
“It was quite complicated, but the Balconette team helped on the survey and their attention to detail helped everything to come together,” says Paul.
On the final result, Kevin is delighted with how Balconette’s balustrade complements the modern style of his new home, adding: “It basically finishes off the top level of the house and is exactly what we wanted. It’s low maintenance, so great for a location so close to the sea!”
