What Sort of Warranties Can I Expect for Your Glass Balustrades?

For anyone investing in a glass balustrade, it’s important to understand the warranty details. Not all warranties are created equal, so it’s essential that you read through the warranty to understand what is and is not included. In some cases, a bad warranty is as useless as no warranty at all.
Our full balustrades warranty is here (and we’d recommend you read it in full). For the sake of ease, here are the most important details.
The long and the short of it.
Buy a glass balustrade from Balconette and you get a 10-year guarantee. This covers the paint, anodising and structural integrity of your balustrade for a full 10 years.
It’s a promise we’re particularly proud of and one which reinforces the quality of the design and manufacture of our balustrades. Unlike some of the ambiguous ‘limited lifetime’ guarantees which reduce in value as time goes on, our warranty covers you for the full value of the repair, replacement or refund without a penny for you to pay.
It’s also important to note that our warranty covers balustrades installed by builders, DIYers and registered installers alike. So long as you or your installer follow our straightforward installation guides and procedures, all will be well with your warranty.
Is the glass in my balustrade covered by the warranty?
We guarantee laminated glass for two years from delivery. This guarantee protects against defects which result in delamination – a fault where the glass and protective interlayer separate. Laminated glass is standard in our Frameless balustrades and is available as a special option on our Hybrid® balustrades.
Our standard 10mm toughened glass is not covered in our 10-year warranty, but extended glass insurance is available for our 10mm toughened glass, if purchased via our Premium package.
We don’t cover glass panels that are broken through impact or misuse. Neither do we cover imperfections such as scratches or reflected distortions.
We will cover glass that is broken or damaged during transit so long as you identify this when you receive the delivery. Once the delivery is signed and accepted, any damage becomes your responsibility. For this reason, we strongly recommend you are available to receive your delivery and that you check it thoroughly before accepting it.
What’s not covered?
As with all warranties and guarantees, some situations are not covered. These are:
- Balustrades which have been incorrectly installed.
- Damage which took place because of incorrectly installed damp-proof membranes or drainage.
- Damage that has occurred because of insufficient or incorrect maintenance.
- Damage to balustrades which have been modified in some way.
- Damage because of problems with your building – such as settlement.
- Damage due to accidents, vandalism, freak weather or acts of God.
I live by the sea. Does my 10-year warranty still stand?
The structural integrity of your balustrade is covered regardless of where you live. The only part of the warranty affected by location is the part connected to surface finishes.
The finish of anodised aluminium balustrades is covered by our 10-year warranty no matter where they are installed.
However, powder coated balustrades installed within three miles of the coast have a reduced guarantee period of five years. That’s because the salty atmosphere is especially corrosive and can damage the paint surface. You can increase the warranty period to 10 years by asking us to apply a marine grade powder coating for extra protection.
I’m selling my house. Will the new owners still benefit from the warranty?
Yes. The guarantee can be transferred to the new owners. Please tell us when your move is booked for and ask the new owner to register their guarantee within 60 days of buying the property.
Let’s say the worst happens and I have to ask you to make good on your promise. What happens?
If your balustrade doesn’t meet our high standards, we will arrange for it to be repaired, replaced or refunded. This will depend on the situation and will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The guarantee does not include removal of damaged balustrades or installation of replacements.
What can I do to make sure my warranty stands?
No-one wants to hear they’ve invalidated their warranty. Do the following to make sure your 10-year guarantee is assured:
- Ensure your balustrade is correctly installed by following the installation instructions and procedures and using the correct fixings.
- Regularly wash your balustrade with warm soapy water. Never use abrasive cleaning products or products that contain bleach or acid.
- Use your balustrade in its intended manner. Using your balustrade in some other way – such as by sitting on it or using it to take heavy weights will invalidate your warranty.
- Carry out a full check of your balustrade once a year.
- Keep a record of your maintenance, cleaning and inspections.
There you have it, the ‘best bits’ of our warranty. To make sure you’re fully informed, we’d recommend you read our full warranty. You can access it here.
